Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang (1924-1983) is a renowned artist of Afghanistan and famous in all over India, Pakistan and Iran. He was born in Kharabat, an area in the old city of Kabul. He learned the basics of music from his father Ustad Ghulam Hussain, a well known musician. He then left to Patiala School of Music in India to learn the Perso-Indian Classical Music. After 16 years of learning before Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan, known as The light of Punjab, he returned back to Kabul at the age of 25. He was shortly awarded the title of Sarahang by the government of Afghanistan.
