Shafiq Mureed is a very popular Afghan singer born in Laghman, Afghanistan. Best known for his patriotic songs, Shafiq is also the winner of the Afghan Star 2008, a reality musical competition show by Tolo TV enabling new solo musical talents to compete on national tv, similar to American Idol.
Shafiq Mureed was influenced by Nazir Khara. Khara, thought him for few months and later he went to do one of his song in Pakistan (Dar Aan Nafas Ki Bimiram). Since, then Shafiq gained popularity in Afghanistan. He seems to be one of the most popular singers inside and outside Afghanistan.
